Abstract

The example of Prophet’s Companions is of those shining stars, thanks to which Muslims today got Iman, Quran and Sunnah of Prophet (P.B.U.H). These Companions spent their entire lives into submission of Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) and left behind such examples that to this day, Islam has been followed in their footsteps. Among these companions were both masters and slaves, traders and laborer’s, even the agricultural profession. These were the people who were counted amongst the greatest personalities in the world and what could be more fortunate than that they were given the good news of heaven while walking on earth. Allah (SWT) says in Holy Quran: “These are the people, Allah has tested their hearts, there is forgiveness and great reward for them”. The source of income of these companions was collective as well as personal contribution, from which they supported their families and participated in helping poor and needy. The incomes of companions can be divided into two parts: (1): Personal Income, (2): Collective Income. This article will review the personal and collective income of companions, in order to disprove the idea that the income of the companions depended on the spoils of war. Along with preaching jihad and religion, they carried out economic activities as well.
