Abstract

Abstract Excerption in Arabic rhetoric has been defined as taking part from the Holy Quran or Hadith of Prophet Muhammad and put it in a poem or prose. However, the poet and writer do not mention any supplementary elucidation about excerpt and quotation that is derived from the Holy Quran and Hadith. It is called Qabasa in Arabic language, literally means a flame of fire, contextually used to seek knowledge where a writer or poet incorporate a specific part of Quran or Hadith to include it in his poetry or prose nevertheless he does not has the right consider it his own.

In this paper, I intended to present the beauty of excerption and citation from the Holy Quran in the poetry of famous Abbasid poet Ali bin Jaham. The excerption in the poetry of Ali bin Jaham deals with studying of his poetic description, which is considered one of his strongest aspects in his poetics and sharp observation
