Abstract

This paper focuses on the general process of translating Arabic literature into English. It highlights the history of translation from and into Arabic and sheds light on the major reasons and watersheds that draw Western translators and readers to the Arabic literary masterpieces. It discusses the hurdles to increase the Arabic titles in English language translation. 

This article explores three literary eras: Pre colonialism, colonialism, and Postcolonialism. it introduces a historical evaluation of how British scholars have dealt with classical Arabic literature in three literary eras.

Many British Arabists from different periods, who were specifically interested in classical Arabic literature wrote, accomplished, and published in the field of classical Arab literature. We will highlight the names and some of their contribution in this regard.
