The linguistic phenomenon of ellipsis (Al-Hadhf) stands as a cornerstone of classical Arabic rhetoric and syntax, reflecting the unique cognitive and cultural disposition of the ancient Arabs who favored conciseness (Al-Ijaz) over redundant elaboration. This research paper examines the structural parameters, contextual prerequisites, and semantic implications of ellipsis in both Pre-Islamic (Jahili) poetry and the text of the Holy Qur'an. Utilizing a descriptive, analytical, and rhetorical methodology, the study investigates how the deliberate omission of lexical elements—ranging from individual particles and nouns to complete syntactical structures—serves to elevate the eloquence (Al-Balaghaf), cognitive engagement, and emotional resonance of the discourse. The findings reveal that ellipsis is not merely a tool for grammatical reduction (Al-Takhfif), but a deliberate aesthetic mechanism employed to invite critical contemplation (Al-Tadabbur), evoke reverence or contempt, and optimize semantic expansiveness. Ultimately, the paper demonstrates that the rhetorical brilliance of the Qur'anic narrative seamlessly inherited and perfected this native Arab linguistic trait, establishing an unparalleled standard of linguistic miracle (I'jaz al-Qur'an).
