A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE WORD AL- SIJON (PRISON) AND ITS SYNONYMS AND THEIR USE IN THE HOLY QURAN

The word Al- sijon "سجن ِّال "is an Arabic word which means jail or prison. In the Holy Quran as well as in Hadith this word means to imprison or to forbid. As almighty Allah says: “There entered with him (Joseph) two young men in the prison”1
Beside the word Al- sijon there are some others words which mean to .(االسر، الحبس، القيد، النكل، االعتقال، الكبل، الثبت) :as Such. forbid to or imprison Although all the above words are similar in meanings but there is some difference in their meanings, if we look at the words from different angles. For example; the word "االعتقال"is used for the prison where prisoners are strongly tied with a rope or chain.
The word "الكبل "is used for the prison where prisoners kept for a long time and tortured physically. As well as "النكل "is used for the prison where prisoners controlled with a bridle like animal.
This article deals with the roots of the word Al- sijon and its synonyms to find out their real meanings and show the importance of Arabic language as well as their citation from the Holy Quran.
